The Old Art of Storytelling

Description

A couple weeks ago I borrowed some lovely books from the library: Folktales of England, (as told by the residents- with dialect!) </i> The Uses of Enchantment</i> by Bruno Bettelheim (the psychology and significance of fairy tales. I love that book) and </i> Marvel: Fairy Tales. Classic FTs with Marvel Characters acting out the main roles. Really good, I assure you!

A couple days later I was at a birthday party with relatives, including little cousins who would need to be occupied for the next half hour at least. Luckily they were not particularly bouncy that day, so I got them to sit down and listen to some of the tales I had to tell. In this pic is me and one of the cousins (the other one left just as the boys came to play on the PSP.) with parts of the stories that I told. "the Green Lady", "Little Rosy" (My mother she kill'd me and baked me in pies/My father he ate me and said I was nice/ My two little sisters they sucked my bones/ And buried me under the marley stones." great stuff for little kids!)

And Doctor Who. I converted "The Eleventh Hour" into a fairy tale setting, and they loved it! I was afraid that I might mess up and forget to tell important parts and make them disinterested (a fatal move), but when I was done she actually asked for more! After my Uncle finished telling us about the "Aswang" (think Filipino version of Lilith), I did the Daleks and "The Beast Below." which I failed at telling. (the Beast Below, not the Daleks.)

EDIT: Here's the link to the written Fairy Tale version of "The ELeventh Hour" [link]

Anyway it was super fun for me and my cousins, and yes I really did wear that hat. It is now officially my storytelling hat, and I plan to write up my Fairy-tale version of "The Eleventh Hour." Hope you likey the pic! Done in watercolor and pencil.

You look like a good storyteller, wish I were there to listen. I’m always thinking them up but I can’t actually tell a story to save my life. Mostly because of my thought processing problem.
