Nostalgic StagnancyOne Day I crossed that wide, uncertain street
That Avenue where past and future meet
And in the centre, strong but weary men
Their years now being past a score and ten
Reflecting on their days of youth now gone
Reminiscing; Old wars last year were won
Of how the days behind them, virginal
Allowed no fault. A shield from Duty's call
Still longing for those fair idyllic years
Allegedly there were no toil or tears
Yet as those weary men look fondly back
Upon their long-lost lives and trodden track
Do any face the forward future road?
To lengthen still that track, and bear its load?
No, they just feed their flawèd memory
Of time long gone, that nev'r again will be.
